Marking Up the PDF Step by Step with a Desktop Editor
1 Open the PDF and Select the Link Tool

5 Save and Verify All Links

How do I create a link from the table of contents to a specific page?
In a desktop editor's Link tool, draw a rectangle over the TOC entry text. In the link properties, set the destination type to 'Page' and enter the target page number. Set the zoom level (Fit Page, Fit Width, or specific zoom). Repeat for each TOC entry. Test each link by clicking it in the PDF reader to verify it navigates to the correct page.
Can I make all URLs in my PDF clickable automatically?
Yes. Desktop editors with auto-link functionality scan the document for text that matches URL patterns (http://, https://, www.) and email patterns ([email protected]), then create link rectangles over each match. Review the detected links before applying — the scanner may create false positives on text that resembles URLs.
Why does my external link open the wrong URL or not work?
The link destination may be malformed. Check that the URL includes the protocol (http:// or https://) — some readers do not auto-prepend it. Also verify the link rectangle is positioned over the correct text. If the link was created during Word export, check the original Word hyperlink — if it was a relative link, it may not work in the PDF.
Are there any limitations to this method?
